Rainfall triggers floods, landslides in city localities

GUWAHATI, June 17 - Incessant overnight rainfall triggered flash floods at places like Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Lachit Nagar, etc, besides four incidents of landslides as the city continued to remain on the edge with predictions of more rainfall in the next few days.

According to the District Disaster Management Authority of Kamrup Metro, water-logging was also reported at Bakul Path of Gotanagar and Arya College Road, but the water receded later.

Landslides were reported at Pub Boragaon, near Gandhi Mandap, near ISKCON Temple of Pachim Sarania and Hasong Basti of Bonda, causing damage to private property. Two persons were reportedly injured in the incident at Bonda.

Meanwhile, the administration today ordered a probe into the death of Deben Chandra Nath (56), whose body was found at Silsako Beel.

The probe will be conducted by Magistrate Chinmoy Phukan and he has been asked to submit the report within seven days. The inquiry will also seek to find out if there were any lapses on the part of different agencies and whether preventive and precautionary measures had been taken.
