IMPHAL, July 2 - Low-lying areas in Imphal city were flooded on Saturday following an intense downpour since Friday, throwing life out of gear even as water-levels of major rivers are on a rising trend.

Meanwhile, movement of vehicles were affected due to landslides at Sehjang near 86 CRPF camp on the Imphal-Silchar highway and Mongkotchephu along Imphal-Ukhrul road, reports said.

Uripok, Andro Parking, Thangmeiband, Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak, Lamphel, Palace Gate, areas around Shree Shree Govindajee temple, Wangkhei and Khurai localities and some office complexes including District Court here have been inundated.

Irrigation and Flood Control department and the district administration have been alerted after the water level of Nambul, Imphal, Iril and Kongba rivers crossed the danger level in Imphal West and Imphal East districts.

However, the water level in flooded Churachandpur town, has been receding slowly. The hill town was hit by flash flood on Friday following heavy rain.

Some villages around Loktak lake have also been reportedly flooded due to the overflowing streams.
