By Correspondent

DHEMAJI, Sept 12 - Incessant rains have affected the normal life in many parts of Dhemaji district. The district once again is in the grip of flood.

Heavy downpour in the upper reaches of Arunachal hill sites for the days is causing flash flood at Kobuchapori Island under Jonai revenue circle. The surging water of New Siang and Lali rivers have inundated Kobuchapori and altogether 158 families have been affected.

The Jonai sub-divisional administration has taken a number of steps to deal with flood. It is learnt that standing crops have been destroyed by flood water causing a concern for the farmers. The farmers have now sought help from the Agriculture department.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on September 7 last predicted heavy rainfall over the north-eastern states. As such, scattered-to-fairly widespread rainfall activity has been observed in the region for the days.

Dhemaji district and Siang districts of bordering Arunachal Pradesh have witnessed a drought-like situation this summer due to scanty rail fall, which adversely affected wet cultivation in the rice bowls.
