Railways plans strategic lines across borders

NEW DELHI, Nov 30 - A total of 14 strategic lines have been identified by the Railways for construction of rail lines along China, Nepal and Pakistan borders. It has been initiated by the Ministry of Defence.

In a Lok Sabha reply, Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said that four strategic lines � 378-km Missamari-Tenga-Tawang, 498-km Bilaspur-Manali-Leh, 227-km Pasighat-Tezu-Rupai and 249-km North Lakhimpur-Bame-Silapathar � will be taken up in the first phase.

None of these projects has been sanctioned although the final location survey has been taken up at a cost of Rs 345 crore. For the year 2016-17, the Ministry of Defence has provided a sum of Rs 87.18 crore, Gohain added.
