SILCHAR, May 24 - At a time when preparations are reaching the final stages for the start of the Silchar-Jiribam train service, around 100 metre track has sunken with no soil underneath putting the fate of the first train on the route in great danger.
A section of the people of the area alleged that the situation developed after the recent spell of rain. Since then, there has been no initiative by the department concerned to put the damaged areas back on track.
On the other hand, PK Das, Deputy Chief Engineer NF Railways (Constructions-1) has assured the people saying there is no reason to panic since the first train to Jiribam will be flagged off from track 1 along the platform.
He was quick to add that this line does not affect the running of the trains and is meant for the crossings when there would be multiple trains running in the coming days. However, the line has been disconnected, he added. He informed that barring around 100 metre area, the track up to Jiribam has been affected because of the heavy downpour.
