By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 5 - The biennial general meeting of the Northeast Frontier Railway Promotee Officers Association (NFRPOA) was held recently at the Rang Bhawan, Maligaon here, said a delayed statement issued here.

Various cadre-related issues of promotee officers of the Indian Railways were discussed in the meeting.

The delegates stressed the need for conducting the Departmental Promotion Committee for Group A induction on time by the Ministry of Railways, which is pending for four yearly batches.

The members called upon the Railway Board to take cognizance of various difficulties faced by promotee officers regarding promotional avenues and service benefits as compared to the 'direct recruitment officers' of the Indian Railways, despite both sets of officers sharing equal responsibilities.

Delegates pointed out that such biased views of policymakers are adversely affecting the working and growth of the Indian Railways.

During the discussion, SS Das, deputy chief engineer (construction), Rangiya, and president of the Rangiya Divisional Promotee Officers Association, raised the issue of stagnation in promotion of officers in miscellaneous cadres, like public relations officers and law officers.

He said the creation of posts in all other cadres are being done whereas the importance of miscellaneous cadres is being ignored and pointed to the resulting frustration of such officers who have been serving without promotion for a long period.

A new executive committee of NFRPOA was formed on the occasion.

Chandamoy Bhattacharjee, assistant signal and telecommunication engineer (construction), and L Nena Singha, assistant executive engineer (construction), were elected as the new president and general secretary, respectively of NFRPOA.

NFRPOA also felicitated meritorious children of promotee officers of NF Railway, who have performed outstandingly in the classes 10 and 12 exams. The daylong event concluded with a cultural show in the evening.
