Railway new, wagons old: Rajkhowa

By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, June 3 Arunachal Pradesh Governor JP Rajkhowa today paid a surprise visit to the Naharlagun railway station to personally see whether the facilities were adequate for the passengers as well as railway officials.

An official release said that the Governor inspected the train bogies, hygiene, security set up, amenities for the passengers and catering services.

He was surprised to find inadequate arrangements at the station. There were no provisions for supply of drinking water, tea, food stuff, etc., as there was not a single licenced shop.

The Governor expressed displeasure on the state of the railway station. He pointed out that although the railway is new (in Arunachal Pradesh) but the wagons are very old.

The newly laid Harmuti-Naharlagun rail line was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 20 last by flagging off two trains an AC Express between Naharlagun and New Delhi; and the Inter-City Express between Naharlagun and Guwahati.

The station is under-staffed and cleanliness is not in accordance to the vision of PMs Swachh Bharat, remarked the newly-appointed Arunachal Governor.

While interacting with the railway officials, the Governor made a strong pitch that the bogies should be replaced with new ones, cleanliness must be maintained at all cost and station should be adequately staffed.

Accompanied by first lady of the State, Rita Rajkhowa, the Governor also visited the Naharlagun helipad.
