Railway Minister reviews Bogibeel project

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Oct 30 - The nations longest rail-cum-road Bogibeel bridge over Brahmaputra, spanning 4.94 km will be opened for public after formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December, Union Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain told newsmen here today following an inspection of the ongoing project.

The Union Minister along with the senior railway officials visited the project site this morning. After reviewing the progress of the works, he said that nearly 98 per cent of the project was completed and whatever was remaining would be achieved by November. We are seeking to get the bridge commissioned by the Prime Minister in December. We are only waiting for a suitable date from the Prime Ministers Office (PMO) for the mega inaugural programme, Gohain said.

It is widely speculated that the bridge could be commissioned on December 25, to coincide with the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the projects construction was inaugurated by the Late Prime Minister in April 21, 2002. Incidentally, all were also speculating that the bridge would be thrown open to the public the same day, last year.
