Rail passengers to be screened for coronavirus

BARPETA, March 17 - The railway passengers coming from outside the State will be screened for coronavirus by doctors in Barpeta Road and Pathshala railway stations in Barpeta district as a preventive measure.

Apart from initiatives of the district Health Department, Railway Department has been requested to provide medical staff, including doctors, for the screening purpose.

District Information and Public Relation Officer Bikash Sarma said that a doctor of the Railway will arrive in Barpeta Road railway station on Wednesday. The station is very sensitive as it is the stoppage of as many as 22 trains from both sides, including a Rajdhani Express and a number of long-distance trains.

Large hoardings and banners have already been erected around the stations highlighting the symptoms and measures to prevent the deadly disease.

The deputy commissioner of Barpeta district had written a letter to the Railway requesting the authorities to provide more doctors so that similar steps can be adopted in all the stations.
