Rail passengers� body submits memo

HAILAKANDI, Sept 14 - Members of Rail Yatri Suraksha Samiti submitted a memorandum to the General Manager of NF Railway through the Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner enlisting an 11-point charter of demands on Tuesday. They demanded early resolution of the problems on the Bairabi (Mizoram-Silchar) railway track. Other demands include regular plying of passenger trains from Bairabi to Silchar and back, plying of trains on Saturdays and Sundays, introduction of more trains on the route for the benefit of passengers, increase of train coaches, introduction of passenger reservation system, immediate development of the infrastructure of the Hailakandi Railway Station, etc.

The memorandum alleged that the decision of the Railway authorities to stop the running of the Bairabi-Silchar train on Saturday and Sunday is causing a lot of inconvenience to the public. The memorandum was signed by president Samsul Haque Barbhuiya and secretary Dipankar Dutta of the Samiti.
