Rail blockade by Kokrajhar traders� body

KOKRAJHAR, Sept 10 � A 12-hour rail blockade will be staged at Kokrajhar Railway Station on September 13, said Bikas Basumatary, president of the Kokrajhar Merchants� Association.

Talking to reporters, Basumatary said that the Kokrajhar Merchants� Association has decided to stage the rail blockade at the Kokrajhar Railway Station from 7 am to 7 pm on September 13 in protest against the non-fulfilment of its long-standing demands.

Basumatary further said that the association had submitted a memorandum to the NF Railway authorities on several occasions, demanding stoppages of all the south-bound and other special express trains at the Kokrajhar Railway Station, but the authorities concerned have not paid any heed to the matter for which they have been compelled to launch such an agitational programme. He urged all the common people of Kokrajhar to join the programme in the greater interest of the locality.

Meanwhile, the Kokrajhar Merchants� Association has also called a 12-hour shut-down of commercial institutions in Kokrajhar town in protest against erratic power supply. It may be mentioned here that regular power cuts in Kokrajhar town have severely affected the business communities.
