Rail blockade by AKRSU(B)

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, Sept 14 - The Biswajit Ray group of the AKRSU has welcomed and supported the Union Governments move to allow entry and stay of Hindu migrants in Assam and slammed the leaders of the AASU and AJYCP for their double standard on the issues of the State.

Following the rail blockade on Monday at New Bongaigaon, Pradip Ray, general secretary of the student group, said, We welcome the Union Governments step that allows the entry and stay of the Hindu migrants from Bangladesh in the State.

When a huge portion of the States land was left to Bangladesh in the land swap agreement, leaders of the AASU and AJYCP had kept mum and instead of going against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the deal, some of these leaders had later joined the party, he said.

Now these very student groups have been opposing the adoption of the Bangladshi Hindu migrants as proposed by the BJP-led Union Government... this is their double standard, Ray said.

The AKRSU, Koch-Rajbongshi Mahila Samiti and Chilarai Sena jointly staged the rail blockade near the New Bongaigaon railway station at 7 am this morning to push forward their demands of Kamatapur and ST status. The leaders also warned that they would root out the BJP from the State in the coming Assembly polls if our demands are not addressed within this year.

The 12-hour rail blockade, which lasted only for three hours because of pressure mounted on the picketers by police, had disrupted the scheduled running of the down Rajdhani Express, up Intercity passenger and down Bangalore Express through the rail route for about three hours.
