Raij Mel organised at Pobitora Haat

MORIGAON, July 14 - Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha organised a �Raij Mel� at Pobitora Haat on July 12 to seek opinions from individuals, organisations etc., on Citizenship (Amendment Bill), 2016, correct NRC draft and the issue of decrease in users of Assamese language.

The open meeting held on the occasion was presided over by Bubumoni Goswami, president, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha. Explaining the purpose of the meeting, Pinaki Bhushan Mahanta, general secretary, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha said that Assamese nationality is facing a serious challenge as the BJP-led Central government is planning to adopt the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 whereby Assamese language and culture will be threatened by Hindu Bangladeshis.

Addressing the gathering, Harendra Bora, former MLA and ex-president, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha said that BJP government is trying to nullify the Assam Accord and has conspired to settle the foreigners on religion basis.

Speaking on the occasion, Munin Mahanta, ex-MLA, Morigaon said that BJP is a communal party and it is trying to polarise the voters on religious grounds in Assam by adopting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. He said that the Assamese nationality is not based on religion and communal forces must be curbed to continue with the peaceful atmosphere of Assam.

Addressing the gathering, Pratap Hazarika, president, Sadou Assam Gramya Puthibharal Santha vehemently criticised the mindset of middle class Assamese people who opt the so called English medium education for their children.
