Rahul�s road show at Nagaon

NAGAON, Feb 26 � Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi arrived at Nehrubali helipad here around 12.30 pm today, accompanied by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, APCC chief Bhubaneswar Kalita, and Congress leaders CP Joshi and Avinash Pandey.

After his arrival, Rahul was greeted with japi and gamosa by Ministers Rockybul Hussain and Nazrul Islam, MP Nazneen Farooqui and others. Some cultural items were presented after his arrival.

From the helipad, Rahul started his Road Show in a luxurious vehicle and moved through the NH 37. Opening a door of his car, Rahul shook hands with the people and waved to the crowds who were waiting since morning on both sides of the road braving a scorching sun to have a glance of Rahul Gandhi.

Later, Rahul arrived at Uriagaon where a makeshift village was constructed within two days with the government fund to show the Congress scion the rural life of Assam. Defying the SPG barricade, Rahul met some people who were waiting there since morning and spent only a few minutes there.

The organisers of today�s programme expected that Rahul would have a taste of some ethnic foods of the State, but their hope was not fulfilled. From Uriagaon he entered the Hahsora village under Samuguri LAC, which is inhabited by ST people involved mainly in weaving and fishery. At the initiative of minister Rockybul Hussain, the villagers were waiting to show Rahul some of their products and fishes, but he could not spend much time with them.

From Hahsora he moved to Kathpara under Samuguri LAC, where too Rahul waved to the people sitting on the roof of his vehicle. From Kathpara he moved to Tezpur via Suloong. Some people expressed dissatisfaction iver the fact that his schedule was too tight and his visit too short.
