Rahul visits Assam University

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, Sept 24 AICC general secretary and MP Rahul Gandhi visited the Assam University here on Thursday under tight security. He was accompanied by Meenakshi Natarajan, MP and Haidi Eden, NSUI national president. Prof Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, vice chancellor of the Assam University welcomed the visitors.

Addressing the students, the young Congress leader said that he had recently visited Japan which is the second most developed country in the world. That country is technologically sound as the youths have come forward for its development. There have been no train accidents in Japan in the last 50 years due to the efforts of the youths.

Rahul encouraged the students to join politics as they are the real future of the country. He said that the youths live for the future and not in the past. He stressed the need of self-assessment among the students.

One of the youngest MPs of the country, Rahul admitted that there is a lot of corruption in the country. Nobody is happy with the existing political system and I am also not happy with it, he said. To eliminate the evils in the system, the young people should provide the remedy. One should not say that the system is dirty and sit back. Everyone should come forward to solve the problems, Rahul added.

Interacting with the students, Rahul expressed the opinion that though the area is backward and plagued with problems, the youths should come forward and work for its development. This area is backward because youth participation is less, the Congress MP said.

The students quizzed Rahul on the broad gauge conversion works, East West Corridor, lack of industrial development, communication, etc. However, they were not pleased with his replies.
