Rahul to campaign on April 3-4

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 28 - Congress president Rahul Gandhi will campaign for the partys Lok Sabha candidates for the Kaliabor, Lakhimpur, Silchar and Karimganj constituencies on April 3-4. Gandhi will take part in a public meeting at Bokakhat on April 3. Bokakhat falls under the Kaliabor seat. On the same day, he will also participate in a Congress party rally at Lakhimpur.

On April 4, the Congress president will visit Karimganj and Silchar for electioneering.

While Kaliabor and Lakhimpur constituencies are going to the polls in the first phase on April 11, Silchar and Karimganj will to the polls in the second phase on April 18.

Meanwhile, the State Congress has accused the BJP-AGP alliance of spreading lies about the grand old partys alleged tie-up with the AIUDF.

BJP-AGP is spreading lies about some secret tie-up between the Congress and the AIUDF. We dismiss such falsehoods. It is not possible for us to have any understanding with the AIUDF. Congress will never compromise with communal forces, said Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) secretary Rhituparna Konwar.

It is noteworthy that the AIUDF had recently announced its decision to contest from only three constituencies in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. Following the AIUDF announcement, the BJP and the AGP have alleged that the Badruddin Ajmal-led party has entered into a tie-up with the Congress.

What AIUDF decides is up to them. AIUDF is fast losing its support base and so it lacks the courage to contest in more number of seats. Ironically, the BJP and the AIUDF had recently joined hands to form zila parishads at Nagaon and Mangaldai after the panchayat polls. So people know who have real tie-up among themselves. BJP and AGP are scared of losing the coming polls and so they are trying to whip up communal passion by alleging our association with the AIUDF, Konwar said.
