Rahul kickstarts Cong poll campaign in Tripura

By Correspondent

KHMULWNG (WEST TRIPURA), March 20 - Congress on Wednesday formally kickstarted its campaign for the Parliamentary elections in Tripura by holding a massive rally here, which was addressed by party president Rahul Gandhi even as the party is yet to declare its candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats.

Rahul, who arrived here from Manipur on a whirlwind campaign in North East, trained gun at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for befooling people on employment for the past five years. Narendra Modi had promised to create two crore jobs every year but what he did is just cheating. Around one crore jobs have been lost in the last year, while 3,000 people are losing job everyday in the country, he said.

Making pun at the Prime Minister, the Congress chief said Modi had promised to bring acche din to the people during the 2014 general election campaign. Has he been able to bring acche din for the country? Farming sector has remained neglected during the period. Suicide of farmers has become a common phenomenon during the Modi regime, he also said.

Rahul also criticised Modi for not waiving loan of the farmers who are in distress. When farmers are reeling under crisis due to loans, Narendra Modi has removed huge amount of NPA of big industrialists, he alleged.

On the Rafale issue, the Congress president hit out at the Prime Minister for awarding off-set contract to Anil Ambani at the cost of Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd (HAL). It was Chowkidar, who had ensured Anil Ambani gets Rs 30,000 crore off-set deal from the French company. Is not the Chowkidar a thief? The CBI Director had to be removed to shield Narandra Modi and Anil Ambani, he further alleged.

Rahul, in his speech, also mocked the Prime Minister for undertaking demonetisation. Even a five-year old boy knows the disadvantage of demonetisation, but our Prime Minister doesnt understand its impact? Taking the advantage of demonetisation, so many people had converted their black money to white money, courtesy NaMo, he said.

Asserting that Congress would withdraw the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill if the party is voted to power in the Parliamentary elections, he said, Modiji is all set to bite the dust in the coming battle of ballots.

Rahul also promised direct funding to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), new industrial policy for the Northeastern States and restoration of special category tag for Tripura.

PCC president Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, AICC secretary Bhupen Bora, former Tripura Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman and former PCC president Gopal Roy also addressed the rally.
