Radial Club of Nagaon emerge champions

GUWAHATI, April 28 - Radial Club of Nagaon annexed the Assam Premier Club Championship title by defeating Gauhati Town Club by 72 runs in the final at the ACA Stadium in Barsapara here on Saturday night.

The champion team walked away with a cash award of Rs 20 lakh along with a trophy while runners-up Gauhati Town Club received a cash award of Rs 10 lakh along with a trophy.

Electing to bat first Radial Club put up a total of 173 runs before being bundled out in 50 overs. The Gauhati Town Club batsmen failed to chase down the target and were bundled out for a paltry 76 runs in 23.4 overs. Due to rain, the match was curtailed to 43 overs and the revised target was 149.

In the closing function, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, former Assam Cricket Association (ACA) president Himanta Biswa Sarma, ACA president Romen Dutta and secretary Devajit Saikia, among others were present on the occasion and gave away the prizes.

The individual trophy winners: (Best batsman) Jyotiraditya Chetia (CCD), (Best bowler) Arpan Dutta (CCB), (Man of the tournament) Yasir Ali (CCD), (Promising player) Bedanta Rajkhowa (Nambor Club), (Best fielder) Shekharjyoti Barman (Radial Club), (Best wk) Erik Roy (GTC), (MoM final) Chanakya Sarma (Radial Club), (Best bowler of final) Mrinmoy Dutta (Radial Club), (Best batsman of final match) Amit Sinha (Radial Club).
