Rabindra-Nazrul-Jyoti-Sukanta janmajayanti

LUMDING, Aug 13 � A five-day all North Eastern Rabindra-Nazrul-Jyoti Prasad-Sukanta janmajayanti (birth anniversary) was celebrated at New Colony, Lumding from July 20 to 24, by �Plaban�, a cultural wing of Boys Union, Lumding.

A total of 350 contestants of different age groups from different places of North East, participated in the songs and dance contest on Rabindra-Nazrul-Jyoti Prasad and Sukanta, art, recitation, tabla-lahara, etc. Everyday after the contest, songs, dances and drama were performed by the local and guest artists from outside. The judges were hired from different places for impartial judgement.

The programme inaugurated by NB Kushary, president of the Boys� Union (club), Animesh Majumdar, mediaperson and Rajesh Bose, secretary of the club, lighting lamps and garlanding the portraits of Rabindra-Nazrul-Jyoti Prasad and Sukanta. Inaugural songs were sung by �Plaban� cultural wing of Boys Union at 5.30 pm on July 20, 2011.

The highlight of the first day was chorus by local artists of Lumding, directed by Lakshmi Kanta Majumder. The highlight of the second day was tabla-violin recital by Kumar Daimary from Diphu, Karbi Anglong and solo song by Rubul Sarma from Diphu while a drama Ari-ari was staged by �Plaban� and directed by Debashish Paul. On the third day, highlight was Gatha Bandana directed by Bijoya Banik while the drama � Apaharan was staged and directed by famous director, dramatist and writer, Shib Prasad Lodh. The highlight of the fourth day were Lok-Giti by Bappi Mitra Majumder and drama Damini staged by �Plaban� and directed by Mantu Acharjee, writer and a dramatist of repute.

The prizes were distributed among the successful candidates on the concluding day. The chief guest of the function was Swapan Kar, local MLA. The prizes were distributed by Swapan Kar, NB Kushary, Uttam Acharjee, general manager �Jiban Suraksha� Groups of company and Ashish Dey, secretary, �Gharoa�, an NGO, invited guests who delivered their speeches encouraging the cultural function on the occasion.

The highlight of the concluding day was song, performed by Avijit Majumder, organiser and in-charge of �Aikatan Band�, Silchar, and special items staged by IPTA and Music College, Silchar.
