Raas begins at Mangaldai

MANGALDAI, Nov 25 - Along with several parts of the State, the Lord Sri Krishna fever has also been gripping the people here as the 36th edition of the Raas festival organised by the Mangaldai Sanatan Dharma Sabha in association with the Raas celebration committee has begun on the Sri Sri Bishnu Temple premises along the bank of Mangaldai river.

Basanta Das, Minister for Fisheries, Water Resources, etc., formally inaugurated the eleven-day programme in the afternoon today. In connection with the inaugural function a public meeting was held with Bhubaneswar Das, president of the 36th Raas celebration subcommittee in the chair, where a few distinguished senior citizens of Darrang district were offered warm felicitation in recognition to their valuable contribution to the society.

Prior to the inaugural function, chief guest Basanta Das and other invited guests were taken to the festival venue from the Mangaldai circuit house in a cultural procession. Earlier on the day, programmes like hoisting of the flag, smriti tarpan and inauguration of the stalls of idols were carried out.

The whole venue has been illuminated with colourful electric lights to attract visitors and devotees alike. Several temporary shops and business establishments have also come up around the festival venue.
