Quick probe into womans death sought

By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, Feb 19 - The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) has urged the police to expedite the process of investigation into the incident in which the body of a woman was found in a river near the Naharlagun helipad.

A APSCW team, led by its Chairperson Radhilu Chai Techi, today visited the Naharlagun Police Station to enquire into the unfortunate incident in which the lifeless body of the woman was found floating in the Barapani river on Monday.

While the Naharlagun Police Station OC D Dolum said that the body has been sent for postmortem, the Commission urged the law-enforcing agency to complete the investigation soon so that justice is delivered at the earliest.

The deceased has been identified as Hage Yami, widow of late Hage Akha of Prem Nagar, said the OC, adding that an investigation has been launched after registration of an unnatural death case under Section 174 of the CrPC.

The APSCW, while expressing anguish over the incident, requested all sections of the society to cooperate with the police in solving the case. The Commission also extended its condolences to the bereaved family.

Suspecting foul play in the death of the woman, the Ziro-based Apatani Youth Association has appealed the police to investigate the case freely without any pressure and unearth the truth immediately. Her death cannot be a natural one; some conspiracy is smelt so a serious investigation is required to unearth the truth, the association said.
