Quasquicentennial celebrations of John Firth Christian High School in Feb 2020

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Nov 24 - John Firth Christian High School, one of the oldest educational institutes in Lakhimpur district is going to celebrate its 125th anniversary (quasquicentennial) celebrations on February 3 and 4, 2020. This was decided in a public meeting at the school premises in North Lakhimpur on Saturday.

The meeting which was presided over by Devendra Pandey, ex-teacher of the college and journalist pensioner, was attended by ex-students, parents and Baptist Church officials that run the school. The school was founded by Rev. John Firth of American Baptist Church in 1893 and its quasquicentennial anniversary has already passed in 2018. The meeting discussed the ways to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the school in a grand manner with active participation by alumni, parents and other stakeholders.

Rev. Chowaram Daimari, the general secretary of North Assam Baptist Church Association, the body which runs John Firth Christian High School, Manick Ramsiary, ex-supervisor of the school and Dulami Herenge Pandu, lecturer, DIET, Lakhimpur also attended the meeting. An organising committee was also formed in the meeting with Devendra Pandey as the president and Akhtar Masfur Ali Hazarika as secretary and Prasanta Basumatary joint secretary. The meeting also appealed to the alumni of the school presently living inside and outside India to get involved in the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the school. The family members of Rev. John Firth living in USA are also expected to attend the celebrations.
