Quality convention at Down Town University

GUWAHATI, April 6 - Assam Down Town University (ADTU) organised a quality convention in collaboration with SGS India on the university campus at Panikhaiti on April 4, said a delayed press release issued here.

The university designed and implemented ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and the certificate was awarded by SGS (which is an internationally acclaimed system certification body) during the convention.

The quality convention was a platform for interaction among academia, students and professionals from industry and other related sectors of the economy.

Experts from industrial organisations, academic institutions and professional bodies including systems certification bodies participated in the deliberations of the convention.

In the welcome address, Anjan Thakur, Director, Quality & Process, ADTU, explained the dynamics of the concept of quality in the modern word and emphasised the need for synergy among stakeholders for quality improvement.

The convention was inaugurated by ADTU Chancellor Dr NN Dutta. In his inaugural address Dr Dutta highlighted the role played by ADTU to fill the diverse academic and professional needs of the people of the region and society at large and appealed to the participants to make the convention a success by contributing ideas for implementation.

In his keynote address, ADTU Vice Chancellor Professor Amarjyoti Choudhury emphasised the dynamics of industry-academia interaction for growth and development of higher educational institutions in the changing scenario.

Debal Banerjee, Executive, Business Development, SGS emphasised the importance of system approach for improvement of quality.

Prabir Kr Das, Jurisdictional Director, Software Technology Parks of India, North East & West Bengal, deliberated in detail regarding industry-academia interaction and presented the overview of a roadmap for such interaction and its impact.

The entire proceedings of the convention were completed in five business sessions. A special session was earmarked for industry participation where the quality circles of Guwahati Refinery demonstrated the activities of quality circle, the release added.
