PWD employee hurt by contractor in Bongaigaon

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, Sept 3 - Police here have failed to nab a contractor who had driven his four-wheeler over a PWD employee allegedly after a brawl and fled the scene on the night of August 30.

Partha Pratim Majumdar (Bapdhan), a contractor of the PWD and a resident of Bongaigaon, had picked up a quarrel with Rahul Ray, an employee of PWD Rural Roads Division office at North Bongaigaon on August 30. At around 11 pm when Rahul was heading towards his residence at Dolaigaon in the town, Bapdhan first knocked him down with his four-wheeler and then drove the vehicle over him.

Badly injured, Rahul was shifted to a local private hospital at night and his parents were subsequently informed.

Next day Rahuls parents lodged a report at North Bongaigaon Patrol Post and accordingly a case No. 651/2019 was registered under Sections 352/326/307 of the IPC.

Bapdhan also filed a cross case at Bongaigaon Police Station after Rahuls parents lodged their report.

Santosh Kumar Nath, SDO of PWDs Rural Roads Sub-Division-1, said that on that particular night the duo had engaged in a clash, following which the incident occurred.

When Nath reached the spot where Rahul was lying injured, Rahul told him that Bapdhan had knocked him down first and then drove his vehicle over him.

According to some local contractors, since Bapdhan enjoys the patronage of a local politician, he may probably manage the police, while Rahul, who is a simple employee sans any backing from the high and mighty, might be at the receiving end.

In such a situation, only impartial role of the police can help Rahul get justice, they opined.
