TURA, April 19 - In what will come as a welcome news for most residents of the plain belt of the Garo Hills as well as neighbouring Assam, the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills (WGH) has asked the PWD (Roads) to repair the NEC road between Bhaitbari and Selsella, which has been lying in a poor shape. The direction came after a visit through the road by the DC as well as complaints from local residents.

In an order, WGH DC Ram Singh directed the Additional Chief Engineer, PWD (Roads), Western Zone, Tura, to maintain the entire NEC road as well as the road between Selsella and Bhaitbari and to report to him about the status of repairs from time to time.

The DC added that two separate funds had been sanctioned for the repair of the APMT Road (NH-127B).

In a fresh sanction that has been approved by the Central Government, an amount of Rs 7.54 crore has been earmarked for the repair of the road from Simbukolgre to Rajabala and another sum of Rs 15.85 crore for the repair of the section from Rajabala to Shyamding. Repair works from Nidanpur to Phulbari are currently under way.
