PVM scoffs at AGP-BJP tie-up

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, March 13 - The election eve alliance of AGP and BJP amply proves that politics is only about self-preservation of leaders who are in public life far beyond their expiry date, said Upamanyu Hazarika, convenor of the Prabajan Virodhi Mancha here today.

According to Hazarika, AGP was reduced to a 3.8 per cent vote share in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, but got a fresh lease of life with its alliance with BJP in 2016.

They have once again proved why the people of Assam had rightly rejected them earlier. For the BJP the Citizenship Amendment Bill is the sole instrument to preserve indigenous identity, by bringing in additional foreigners and not throwing out the existing. Both realise that their political boats are sinking and the alliance only proves that they want to sink together. Its a tragedy for the indigenous people of Assam that the leaders of the parties we chose to protect our interests are only interested in selfish self-preservation, not thinking (or acting) on what needs to be done to protect the indigenous from becoming a minority, he added.
