GUWAHATI, March 11 - Prabrajan Virodhi Manch (PVM) convener Upamanyu Hazarika today alleged that the Congress and the AIUDFs support to the Rajya Sabha candidature of senior journalist Ajit Bhuyan exposes the hypocrisy in the name of protecting the interests of the indigenous people of Assam.
Both the Congress and the AIUDF have sought the granting of citizenship to all infiltrators from Bangladesh into Assam up to the year 2015. It is the Bangladeshi Muslims alone who will become a majority by 2040 and who have already driven out the indigenous people from their homelands in lower and middle Assam, Hazarika alleged.
Bhuyan seeks to signify his candidature as one representing the anti-CAA forces; but, when the CAA is being opposed by indigenous people for thrusting more foreigners upon the State, the support from the AIUDF, which represents the Bangladeshi migrant Muslims, along with the Congress, is antithetical and opposed to the interests of the indigenous people, he stated.
PVM, which has been fighting against the illegal migration in the State, asserted that the indigenous people of Assam are facing equal threat from the Hindu and Muslim illegal migrants from the neighbouring country and therefore, the interests of the indigenous people cannot be protected overlooking the aspect of infiltration.
