Put taxation in right perspective: NSCN-IM

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, April 24 - NSCN-IM has stated that the matter of taxation in Assam by NSCN need to be put in the right perspective. The outfit has made the statement in reaction to the report carried in The Assam Tribune as well as in some sections of the media in Nagaland.

The NSCN, in a release, said, Though such report lack authenticity as The Assam Tribune fails to mention the name of the official from Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), who has made a blanket statement on the matter of taxation by NSCN, the Naga Nation purely for the sake of clarity on the matter of jurisdiction and legitimacy necessitated response to it.

Stating that firstly, we must know that NSCN has no confusion on Naga territory and the territory that belongs to the neighbours, the release said any imaginary territory created during the British colonial period and the reclaiming and redrawing of such territory by India after her Independence that affects Naga ancestral territory is unacceptable.

It said the NSCN has its natural jurisdiction over all the Naga ancestral territory whether such territory falls under the administrative set-up maneuvered through unilateral bifurcation and forceful occupation by India. NSCN doesnt recognise nor accept any foreign domination over its land and people.

The question of dictating what to do and what not to do to the NSCN doesnt arise as Cease Fire Agreement is a bilateral agreement between two entities, it said.

Moreover, ceasefire meeting has nothing do to with taxation just as NSCN has no rights to tell the Government of India not to impose taxation on its citizens, it stated.
