Punjab girls humble Assam by 158 runs

GUWAHATI, March 4 - Assam faced yet another big defeat in the BCCI�s U-19 Women�s One-day Cricket Tournament.

At the ACA Stadium in Barsapara here today, in an Elite Group A match, Punjab trounced hosts Assam by 158 runs.

Opting to bat first, Punjab smacked up a commendable total of 200 in 50 overs losing five wickets. Kanika Ahuja top scored with 99 while Srishti Rajput (25), Anjali (23) and Aishmine Kaur (19) were the other useful contributors. Assam bowlers failed to deliver as Bhagyashri Barman was the lone bowler to pick two wickets. Chasing the massive target Assam batswomen continued their poor form, baring the Bengal match and were all out for 42 in 16.4 overs. Hemi Mili (10) was the lone Assam batswoman to get to double figures.

For Punjab, Mushkan Sogi (5/12) and Raman Preet Kaur (5/21) were enough to crush the Assam innings. In other matches of the day, at the NFRSA Stadium, Mumbai defeated Haryana by five wickets. In reply to Haryana�s 70 for six in 23 overs, Mumbai gathered 72 for five in 22 overs.

The match between Kerala and Rajasthan, scheduled to be held at the Judges� Field was abandoned due to soggy outfield.
