Pulling all resources can help beat cancer, says oncologist

GUWAHATI, Sept 7 - Senior Consultant at the Department of Radiation Oncology of the Singapore-based National Cancer Center (NCC) Dr Yoke Lim Soong delivered the �Academic Excellence Oration 2018� at Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) here today.

He spoke on �Cure through collaboration: Head and neck cancer programme at the NCC, Singapore�.

Dr Yoke, who sub-specialises in the radiotherapy management of head and neck and gynaecological cancers, is also the medical advisor for the Nasopharyngeal Cancer Support Group at NCC.

�Collaboration in cancer means to pool all the resources and work with others dedicated to a common cause, with the hope that together we can beat cancer,� he said.

During the programme, a lecture was delivered by Dr Beena Kunheri, Professor of Radiation Oncology at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi.

Prof Kunheri spoke on advanced techniques of shorter duration of radiation than standard regime for breast cancer treatment.

�The major advantage of such technique of radiation treatment for breast cancer is that the patients can receive the full course of radiation treatment in less number of days without compromising on the quality of treatment,� said Prof Kunheri.
