GUWAHATI, July 17 � The last rites of veteran sports personality Pulin Das were performed at the Navagraha cremation ground with full State honours.
His eldest son Kalyan Das lit the pyre around 12 noon in the presence of a host of family members, relatives and admirers.
Earlier, Das� mortal remains were kept on the India Club premises where people from different walks of life turned up to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Ajit Singh also turned up at the India Club and paid tributes to Das, who left for his heavenly abode on Wednesday.
�The Government is contemplating setting up a sports award in the name of Pulin Das,� Gogoi said.
AASU adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya said that Pulin Das� absence will always be felt by the State and the void left by him would be very difficult to fill.
Meanwhile, the Jorhat Tennis Club has condoled the demise of Pulin Das.
