Pul seeks one-time grant of Rs 5214.28 cr

ITANAGAR, `June 6 - Arunachal Chief Minister Kalikho Pul on Monday urged the Centre for a one-time financial grant of Rs 5214.28 crore to carry out its ambitious infrastructure development projects and in addressing other challenges facing the social sector.

Calling on the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the Chief Minister said the one-time financial grant was needed to meet the liabilities created during the previous government.

�Out of the total amount, Rs 1801 crore were the liabilities created by the previous government and Rs 1264.22 crore liabilities created under the CSS schemes. Also, the State inherited a shortfall of Rs 2149.06 crore in the Central share of taxes acquired over the two years,� said the Chief Minister in a brief meeting that was also attended by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju.

He informed that large part of the Central grants were used for servicing on non-plan expenditures such as on salaries, wages, maintenance of roads & bridges, power purchase, etc., which amounted to Rs 7660.38 during 2015-16 and is estimated at Rs 9358.06 crore during 2016-17.

�If you agree on our request for clearance of financial dues, then we can carry forward our development activities or else it is going to be very difficult,� Pul told Jaitley.
