ITANAGAR, March 4 - Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has deeply mourned the sad and sudden demise of former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma, who breathed his last following a heart attack at his Delhi residence today.

Pul described the former Meghalaya CM as a veteran politician of all time and said the news of sudden demise of Sangma came as a shock to us. In his demise, we have lost a great leader, a tall political figure who served the country in different capacities, the new Arunachal CM said.

In a condolence message to Agatha, daughter of the veteran leader, Pul said, With profound grief, I on behalf of the people of Arunachal write to share the grief of losing a true son of the soil, a patriot, a veteran politician of all time, and a man who led from the front and left behind a legacy to cherish.

He said besides proving his calibre in governance by holding the helms of Meghalaya as Chief Minister, the Congress and later Nationalist Congress Party and National Peoples Party stalwart went on becoming the first North-Easterner to hold the coveted chair of Speaker of Lok Sabha. He also has the credit of remaining the Member of Parliament for eight terms.

He will be remembered by the people for his gentleness and contributions made to the society and the country in various capacities during his more than four decades of political career.

The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee and the Arunachal Pradesh unit of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) also condoled the demise of Sangma and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul. The parties said late Sangma will be always remembered for his immense contributions for the development of North East.
