Puja preparations in full swing at Badarpur

BADARPUR, Sept 24 - Preparations are going on in full swing at Badarpur to celebrate the Durga Puja from September 26 to 30 with various programmes. Office-bearers of more than 200 puja committees are working hard to make the celebrations a grand success.

Activities related to formation of puja committees and preparations of budgets are already over. Other works like pandal construction, illuminations and subscription-raising activities are now going on in full swing. Various �dhaki� teams from different parts of West Bengal and Tripura have already reached Badarpur and several parts of Barak Valley.

The puja markets in Badarpur, especially the Badarpur Railway Market, are flooded with people for buying clothes and other items for the ensuing puja.

This year, more than 200 puja pandals are being set up at Badarpur and its adjoining areas under Badarpur Police Station where different programmes have been planned for the puja celebration.

Some puja committees here like Badarpur Railway Ananda Dham Kalibari Puja Committee, Badarpur Jangla Kalibari Puja Committee, Badarpur Railway Traffic Colony Puja Committee, GRP Colony Sarbajanin Puja Committee and Badarpur ST Road Durga Puja Committee are arranging special programmes and attractive decorations and illuminations for celebrating the Durga Puja festival.

This year, the Badarpur ST Road Durga Puja Committee is completing 45 years. Noted citizen of Badarpur Town, Late Suresh Chandra Banik, was the founder secretary of the puja committee, and since then, the people of the area have been celebrating the Durga Puja with great pomp and grandeur every year.

Maintaining the tradition, the Badarpur ST Road Durga Puja Committee has decided to install 12-foot tall Durga idol this year, said the secretary of the puja committee.

It is worth mentioning that the puja celebration at Badarpur Ghat will also be one of the must visit dazzling site for the pandal hoppers as all the arrangements are being done by local women. Dasha � Bhuja Sarbajanin Puja Committee has been celebrating the puja for last few years.

Talking to this correspondent, the chairman of Badarpur Town Committee, Dipankar Roy Karmakar, said that it will provide special facilities in the Badarpur Town during the puja, like supply of drinking water twice a day in the town and uninterrupted electricity in every lane of the town.
