Puja celebrations end peacefully at North Lakhimpur

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Oct 8 - The four day festivities of autumn festival of Durga Puja passed off peacefully in North Lakhimpur with the immersion of the idols in Ranganadi river this afternoon.

The festivities in North Lakhimpur this time was marked by the golden jubilee year of Gopinagar Puja Committee in Ward No. 10 of the town. First celebrated in 1970, the Gopinagar Durga Puja Committee this time celebrated its 50th year with a grand pandal and series of programmes that commenced from September 28. Various cultural programmes and competitions were organised to mark the golden jubilee of the Durga Puja in Gopinagar. On October 2, senior citizens, prominent sportspersons and public figures were felicitated by the Gopinagar Durga Puja Committee along with the felicitation of the family members of the persons who were associated in organising the puja on its first year. A souvenir Kaushiki was also released on that occasion. The main attraction of the Durga Puja in Gopinagar was the spectacular pandal made from reeds costing Rs 18 lakh. Elaborate arrangements were made by the organisers for the smooth visit of public to the puja pandal with the assistance of 83 volunteers. Youths from Marwari Yuva Manch, Bhojpuri Yuva Manch and others are also served the public at the puja site. Security cameras were also installed in the puja pandal areas by the organizers.
