Publication Board announces award

GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - The Publication Board, Assam today announced its Lifetime Achievement Award for the years 2019 and 2020 to be presented at the 33rd Guwahati Book Fair commencing on December 30 here.

Eminent Sanskrit scholar Dr Thaneswar Sarma has been selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award 2019 and writer-educationist Ramesh Pathak has been selected for the current year�s award.

Meanwhile, the Publication Board said its preparation for the 12-day book fair, to be held on the Assam Engineering Institute playground here, is complete. There will be no entry fee to the book fair that will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at 4 pm on December 30.

Former Governor of Tripura Tathagata Roy and Chief Minister�s Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami will be present at the inaugural function as distinguished guests. Noted litterateur Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi will also attend the function to be presided over by State Education Minister and Publication Board Chairman Himanta Biswa Sarma.

A literary fest will be observed in line with the book fair in which 117 publishing houses are participating, five of those from Delhi and eight from Kolkata. Twelve books will be published at the inaugural function. A special event will be organised on January 2 to celebrate 175 years of Arunodoi.

Noted litterateur from Jharkhand Pankaj Mitra and Asam Sahitya Sabha president Kuladhar Saikia will be present on the concluding day of the book fair as distinguished guests. Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Toren Bodo and Minister of State (Education) Bhabesh Kalita will also attend the last day�s event to be presided over by Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 10.
