Public holidays on polling days in State

GUWAHATI, March 29 - The Assam Government has declared public holidays under the NI Act in the districts where the Lok Sabha elections will take place next month.

A public holiday has been declared on April 11 in Biswanath, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts on account of the first phase of the general election.

Likewise, a public holiday has been declared on April 18 in the districts of Cachar, Darrang, Dima Hasao, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Udalguri and West Karbi Anglong where the second phase of the general election will take place.

There will be a public holiday on April 23 in the districts of Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Kokrajhar, Nalbari and South Salmara on account of the third phase of the general election.

All government, non-government offices, educational institutions and business establishments, including banks, tea gardens, industries, etc., within the jurisdiction of the districts mentioned above will remain closed on account of the public holiday under the NI Act during their respective phases of elections, an official release stated.
