IMPHAL, May 6 - Life came to a grinding halt in Manipur once again on Friday owing to a public curfew demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system and continuation of a Statewide bandh by a Joint Action Committee (JAC) demanding justice into the death of a youth.

The 42-hour public curfew which began at midnight of May 5 was called by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS).

JCILPS has also asked political parties in the State to announce their stand on the burning issue of influx within May 8 as Imphal Municipal Corporation polls is scheduled on June 2 next.

Another JAC called the 48-hour bandh in protest against the State Governments failure to find out the facts and circumstances leading to the suspicious death of 24 year- old S Prasanta in Imphal West district on April 24 last.

The usually busy market places in and around Imphal and all roads leading to the State capital wore a desolate look since dawn to dusk. Inter-State, inter-district and inter-town passenger services remained suspended for the day.

The strike is scheduled to conclude on April 7 evening.

JCILPS leaders justifying the demand for ILPS said that the population of indigenous hill and plain people is around 18/19 lakhs while non-locals account for more than 10 lakh.
