Public curfew affects normal life in Manipur

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, July 30 - A 24-hour public curfew in Manipur today affected normal life in the bandh and blockade-ridden State.

The public curfew which came into force from Friday midnight was called by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) in protest against the police action preventing holding of a public meeting to discuss the ongoing ILP stir in the State at Singjamei here yesterday.

However, police said they stopped them from doing so as part of enforcing prohibitory orders in Imphal East district.

In view of the strike, all vehicular movement except those carrying essential commodities and of law enforcing agencies were off the roads from dawn to dusk.

The markets in and around Imphal also wore a deserted look while business establishments, private and government offices remained closed.

However, there is no major report of any unwanted incidents till the report goes to the press.
