PSPB rule the roost in National TT

GUWAHATI, Feb 15 � Petrolium Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) paddlers again captured the limelight in the OIL 71st Senior National and Inter State Table Tennis Championship grabing all four top spots in the singles events of both men and women sections.

Top seed A Sharath Kamal will play against Sourav Chakraborty for the men�s singles title, while K Shamini will cross swords against Poulomoi Ghatak for the women�s singles crown.

In the semifinals, Sharath beat Subhajit Saha 11-8, 9-11, 12-10, 11-9, 9-11, 11-3, while unseeded Sourav Chakraborty got the better of A Amalraj 6-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 10-12, 12-10, 11-9 in a keenly contested encounter.

In the women single semifinals, K Shamini beat Soumi Mondal 11-6, 10-12, 11-9, 11-6, 11-4, while Poulomi Ghatak beat Madhurika Patkar 11-7, 11-3, 5-11, 12-14, 11-8, 11-6.

Earlier, in the mixed doubles semifinals, Subhajit Saha-Nandita Saha, both PSPB, beat Zubin Kumar-Divya Despande 11-7, 12-10, 13-11 in staright sets, while Sourav Chakraborty-Mouma Das outplayed Soumyadeep Roy-Poloumi Ghatak of West Bengal 11-8, 11-8, 11-9.

In the men�s singles, sixth seeded Amal Raj of PSPB caused an upset defeating third seed and champion of 2000 and 2001 Soumyadeep Roy 8-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8, 11-3 in a gruelling quarterfinal.

In the women�s doubles final, the duo of K Shamini-Madhurika Patkar beat Pooja Sahasrabudhe-Divya Deshpande 11-8, 5-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6.

In men�s doubles final, Saurav Chakraborty-Anirban Nandy beat Soumyadeep Roy-Jubin Kumar 11-8, 11-9, 5-11, 11-2.
