SHILLONG, March 10 - Single fathers should also be provided financial assistance, like single mothers, by the State Government, former Meghalaya Deputy Speaker, Sanbor Shullai today urged in the Assembly.
Taking part in the discussion on the Governor�s address, Shullai said that several husbands were abandoned by their wives for other men and these single fathers are taking care of the children.
�Some of the single fathers with children come to me and seek assistance. I went to the Integrated Child Development Service (for assistance to these abandoned husbands) but they say there is no direction from the Government,� Shullai said as the House burst into peals of laughter.
The former Deputy Speaker urged the Chief Minister that he should personally see that single fathers, like single mothers, are also be brought under the CM�s Scheme for Social Assistance. �Kindly pass order on single fathers to avail financial assistance,� he said.
Meghalaya Government under the CM scheme provides financial assistance to single mothers. The scheme has also included widows under the category of single mothers.
