SILCHAR, Jan 21 People here have strongly protested the recent killings of five individuals belonging to the Hindi-speaking community in Kokrajhar on January 18.

Protesters under the banner of Barak Valley Hindi Bhasi Samannay Samiti came out on the streets and marched towards the office of the Deputy Commisioner to give vent to their anger by burning the effigies slamming the ongoing terrorism in the State. Members representing associations like Cachar Hindi Bhasi Chatra Parishad, Hindi Bhasi Mahila Manch, Sahitya Mitra and others gave slogans against the government for its failure in providing security to the common people.

This Congress government has utterly failed to give any security to the people. It has been unable to control the rising violence in Bodoland which resulted in the loss of life on many occasions. Hence it has no right to stay in power. It must immediately step down, cried out the protesters. Further, Amarnath Khandelwal, Dilip Kumar Singh, Seema Kumar, Pawan Kumar Agarwal, Nilam Goswami and other protesters demanded compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased and jobs to their family members. Local unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and AIUDF MLA Maulana Ataur Rahman Majharbhuiya also joined in the protest and expressed solidarity to their demands.

A memorandum was also sent to the Governor stating that if common people get killed in such barbaric incidents any further, the Hindi-speaking people will not hesitate to stage massive protest.
