Protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill

DOOMDOOMA, May 11 - Tinsukia District Committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) in collaboration with several other national and ethnic organizations brought out a torchlight rally in Doomdooma town this evening protesting against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Hundreds of people including women spontaneously participated in the rally. The rally began from Doomdooma town field and after passing through the main streets of the town ended at Gandhi Chowk where a protest meeting was held. Addressing the meeting, the leaders strongly opposed the proposed Bill and urged all to come forward to protest the Bill.

ANN Service from Patachakuchi adds: A large number of members of Zubeen�s fan club of Bajali led by Jyotish Patgiri, president and Mrinmoy Pathak, secretary in association with different organisations like Chatra Mukti Sangram Sammitee and KMSS, AJYCP, Kalita Janaogshthi Students� Union took out a protest procession at Pathsala against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2106. The procession moved through Pathsala town Chariali and later assembled on NH-31 point, Pathsala. The protesters also burned the effigy of Prime Minister of India and Chief Minister of Assam and shouted slogans against the State and Central governments for their alleged move for the amendment of the Act.
