Protestors block NH- 37 at Makum

TINSUKIA, Sept 10 - Demanding a permanent solution to the perennial flood problem of Barekuri area under Doomdooma Revenue circle of Tinsukia district, people of the area under the banner of Barekuri anchalik samities of the Sadou Asom Moran Sabha and Sadou Moran Jatiya Parishad, blocked the National Highway 37 at Makum today. The blockade affected the traffic of both NH 37 and 38 for several hours.

The protesters also demanded a solution to other problems like maintenance of deplorable roads, irrigation system, need of a 30-bed hospital, five veterinary sub centres, provincialisation of all venture schools, a sports training centre in the name of Raghav Moran, improvement of the PDS system, construction of a cultural centre etc., in the area.

The blockade was lifted at the assurance of the Executive Magistrate, who visited the site and pacified the protesters. The anchalik committee of the Asom Moran Sabha has submitted a 17-point charter of demands to the Deputy Commissioner through the Executive Magistrate.
