Protesting civic workers clean garbage

SILCHAR, July 29 - Despite their ongoing state-wide agitation for implementation of pension, recruitment of staff on compassionate grounds and regularisation of daily wage workers, the civic board employees and workers were seen cleaning the garbage dumped across the town over the past few days. Only for a day though, the workers began to pick up the garbage and wastes from various street corners on Tuesday morning.

Nani Bhattacharjee, general secretary of the Silchar Municipality Employees� Union said that the employees are aware of the problems faced by the people. �In the meeting held last Sunday, the All Assam Civic Body Workers� Federation has decided to clean the dumped garbage so that people get some respite,� he said.
