Protesters clash with police in Bongaigaon

By CORRESPONDENT

BONGAIGAON, Sept 6 Police and security forces dispersed members of Koch Rajbanshi United Forum who blocked the railway track at New Bongaigaon railway level crossing this morning.

Police burst teargas shells, fired rubber bullets and resorted to lathicharge to clear the track on which the Rajdhani (Down) Express was supposed to run. In retaliation the picketers, observing 12-hour rail blockade demanding separate Kamatapur state and ST status, pelted stones at the security personnel.

More than twenty picketers were injured. A few security personnel also received minor injuries. A woman administrative officer received injury on her left wrist. The picketers caused damage to vehicles of the security personnel. Somehow in between the Rajdhani Express could pass through the blockade site. Later more picketers tried to block rail track near the level crossing. But police arrested them and lodged them in the Mahavirsthan School field.
