AIZAWL, April 20 - Activists of Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) allegedly burnt vehicles in the complex of Champhai deputy commissioners office today as the indefinite bandh called by the students organisation in the eastern Mizorams town turned violent.

The bandh called by the Champhai district MZP in protest against shortage of doctors at district civil hospital entered the third day today when unidentified youths stormed into the DC complex and torched the vehicles in the garage.

Three vehicles and one bike belonging to the DC office and one private car were burnt down, Champhai SDO Sadar Pachhunga said over phone. He added that window panes of the DCs office were also broken.

There was a tussle between police and the protesters as the former were trying to disperse the crowd. Four persons, including a woman, have been injured in the tussle, the official said. No one has been arrested yet in connection with the arsons. The MZP has been demanding posting of sufficient doctors at the district hospital since February this year.

PTI adds: Three militants belonging to underground Bru Democratic Front of Mizoram (BDFM) were arrested in south Mizorams Lawngtlai district near Bangladesh border, State Home Minister R Lalzirliana today said.

The Bru militants were captured while trying to enter Mizoram from Bangladesh on Sunday and two AK-47 rifles and 39 rounds of ammunition were seized from them, Lalzirliana told reporters here.

The BDFM militants were involved in a number of abductions for ransom on Mizoram-Bangladesh-Tripura border areas by working with another militant outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura.

The State Minister said that around 10 cadres of BDFM were involved in the recent abduction of village council member of Vaseitlang village.
