Protest over temple-shaped bhelaghar

GUWAHATI, Jan 15 � Members of the Kamakhya Sanatan Dharmiya Samaj today staged a dharna in the Kamakhya temple campus to protest the construction of a bhelaghar in the shape of the famous Shakti shrine Kamakhya temple. Around 300 members of the Samaj, which is a joint platform of the Kamakhya Panda Samaj, Kamakhya Brahman Samaj, Kamakhya Purohit Samaj, Kamakhya Debutter Board, Kamakhya Doloi Samaj, among others, took part in the programme.

The participants of the dharna also paraded the temple campus shouting slogans against the acts that belittle the image of the famous temple. They condemned the act of building a bhelaghar in the shape of the temple, complaining that their religious-cultural sentiments were hurt.

The bhelaghar is built at the Nagaon Doson school playground. The demonstrators warned a vigorous agitation in case the temple model of the bhelaghar is not changed. Bardoloi of the temple Kabindranath Sarma said that administration should prevent such acts and demanded immediate change in the shape of the bhelaghar, said publicity secretary of Kamakhya Debutter Board Anup Prasad Sarma.
