SILCHAR, June 13 - Hundreds of local residents of Burunga and Khambarbazar under Katigorah constituency in Cachar district staged a protest against dilapidated condition of Silchar-Kalain and Silchar-Jayantia roads.

The protesters demonstrated their anger on the road condition from 7 am till late afternoon and echoed their dissent over the approach of the Government to mend the vital roads. They alleged that commuters are facing severe hardships due to poor condition of the roads, but the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye.

Later, Katigorah Circle Officer Jiten Taid reached the spot and pacified the irked protesters.

"We have been demanding repairing of the roads for a long time now. However, the authorities concerned have ignored the plight of the citizens, Binda Sinha, Aji Uddin Ahmed and Samsul Islam said.

Taid assured the locals that repair works would start within a week and he would visit the affected areas in the next three days with the officials from the concerned department to assess the conditions.
