JORABAT, Aug 27 - The GMCs Solid Waste Management Facility proposed to be set up on the city outskirts near Jorabat has received another backlash, with six Amri-Karbi indigenous organisations alleging that the government is forcefully trying to set up the facility at an unsuitable place.

Decrying the allotment of 27 bighas of tribal belt land under dag number 32 at Tamulikuchi under Sonapur revenue circle for the facility, the Amri Karbi National Council (AKNC) on behalf of six Amri-Karbi indigenous organisations, warned the government of a vigorous protest programme against it in the near future.

In a press release, the AKNC threatened to launch a vigorous protest programme if the government fails to revert or cancel the allotment of the land to the GMC for construction of the facility before September 10. The AKNC warned that the government would be responsible for any untoward situation resulting from the protest programme.

It may be mentioned that on March 5 the six Amri-Karbi indigenous organisations had submitted a memorandum to the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner seeking cancellation of the decision to set up the facility in the area inhabited by tribal people.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that more than ten memoranda have been submitted to the DC and the Chief Minister seeking withdrawal of the decision to set up the waste management facility in the mentioned area.
